Since there aren't many bilingual road atlases of Japan, this one will have to do. It could be better and could be worse.
I had the older version of this book that I loved and then gave to someone else going to Japan. Now I'm going again and while this version doesn't seem quite as nice it might be just because it has been changed and I'll eventually learn to appreciate it.
Handy size but printing very small, need magnifying glass to read it!.Full of very helpful information for car touring
by English speaking tourists.
Perfect if you are going to Japan and can't read Japanese. I was able to use the subway even though some of the stations don't have the stops written in English. Very handy!

I used the older edition for years, but as you may or may not know, many areas of Japan reincorporated and merged different areas into single cities, etc. This newer version contains many of the changes. Whether you are a seasoned traveler to Japan, a first time visitor, or are planning to live there, this is a great resource indicating all city names in both English and Japanese. The Tokyo and Osaka public transportation maps are great.
Good coverage by areas, by cities, with useful charts at the end (subway plans, etc.). Kanji is a little small and some places get cut out, where the maps change or where the fold is. Shows roads and topography. Lightweight and not too big. Of course an index, too.
